Jean Francois Captain visited Engro Foods beneficiary trainees in Karachi

KARACHI: European Union ambassador to Pakistan, Jean Francois Cautain visited Engro Foods (EFL) beneficiary trainees working as dairy farm supervisor at farms in Karachi.  The ambassador appreciated EFL’s efforts for creating skilled workforce to support the dairy value chain. European Union also circulated a short video about this Dairy Development Program on their official social media platforms commending Engro Foods role for dairy development to strengthen the local farming community.

Engro Foods is cultivating prosperity by providing trainings on best dairy farming practices to create sustainable livelihoods through increased income for farmers. Engro Foods has trained 1,263 skilled manpower in total, 35% of them being women. This Dairy Development Program was funded by European Union (EU), Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) and Norwegian government through National Vocational and Technical Training Commission (NAVTTC) Sindh Pakistan. At the visit, the EU ambassador also awarded certificates to qualified farm supervisors and female livestock extension workers.

Saud Ahmed Pasha stated, “Our purpose, our plan is to revolutionize the dairy sector of Pakistan and it feels great to have our Dairy Development Program (DDP) recognized by independent international bodies such as European Union. The work that is being done with the farmers will empower them with sustainable livelihoods– in the context of this project, EFL has managed to train 1,260+ beneficiaries as farm supervisors, 448 of them are women. Currently 80% of these farm supervisors are employed at commercial dairy farms and others have started their own micro enterprise. The trained workforce has also resulted in increasing the overall farm productivity by 22% which is notable increase in the dairy sector.”

Engro Foods is owned by 19,000 dairy farmers globally and they are determined to strengthen the local farming communities in line with their core purpose of enabling a better living for our farmers, now and for generations to come.

Engro Corporation posts Rs6.837bn profit after tax

KARACHI: Engro Corporation has posted consolidated profit-after-tax (PAT) of Rs 6.565 billion compared to Rs 6.837 billion for the first quarter ending March 31, 2019 with consolidated revenue growth of 21 percent against the same period of last year.

The profit is driven by higher urea sales in fertilizer business. PAT attributable to the owners was recorded at Rs 4.010 billion against Rs 4.194 billion for the similar period of last year, said an Engro press release on Friday.

On a stand-alone basis, the company posted a profit after tax of Rs3.832 billion against Rs 3.146 million for the similar period last year.

The company announced an interim cash dividend of Rs 7.00 per share for the first quarter. Engro Corporation, in light of its long-term strategy, has streamlined its businesses in four verticals food and agriculture, energy and related Infrastructure, petrochemicals and telecommunications infrastructure; focused on creating value and helping Pakistan resolve these pressing issues.

For developing potential business opportunities in the telecommunications infrastructure vertical, the Company had earlier set up Enfrashare (Private) Limited.

It will accelerate development of the country’s connectivity infrastructure by providing an opportunity for people to be part of the new digital era.

As an initial investment, Enfrashare will engage in the acquisition and construction of shared telecom towers, provision of various telecommunication infrastructure and related services including state-of-the-art network monitoring solutions.

To enable this, the Directors have approved an investment of Rs 7.5 billion in this vertical.

The Board of Directors also approved the commencement of a feasibility study of a polypropylene facility based on a propane dehydrogenation plant.

This will also enable the company to initiate discussions with potential partners and/or stakeholders for developing this project.

Investment in the Petrochemical sector will create opportunities for both substituting the imports and enhancing the export potential. Thus, it will help build foreign currency reserves of the country.

KARACHI: Engro Polymer & Chemicals Limited (EPCL) as part of its CSR initiative, signed an agreement with The Citizens Foundation (TCF) to setup two new purpose-built school campuses in Ghaggar Phattak, Bin Qasim Town, Karachi. These two new facilities will serve as a primary school for girls and boys in the vicinity which lacks quality education infrastructure. The agreement was signed by Mr. Imran Anwer, CEO & President – Engro Polymer & Chemicals Limited and Syed Asaad Ayub Ahmad, CEO & President, TCF. 

With the construction of these two new purpose built schools, EPCL will be providing quality education through TCF to more than 1200 under served children. This agreement is aimed to further increase the outreach and spread literacy in different areas of Gaghar Phattak, said Rao Mubeen Ahmed Head of Public Affairs & CSR of Engro Polymer. He further added, “we are committed to pay a handsome contribution towards the betterment of the less privileged communities in various fields like education, health, safe drinking, skill development and environment to bring the positive change within these neglected areas of our country.” 

Speaking at the occasion, Imran Anwar, CEO, Engro Polymer & Chemicals said: “We believe Pakistan’s solution going forward lies in quality education. It is only by educating these young minds today that we can move forward. We at Engro, feel it is also our responsibility to provide our adjoining communities related opportunities in this regard. 

TCF CEO, Asaad Ayub Ahmad added: “More than 22 million children in Pakistan have never seen the inside of a classroom. This leaves them destined to a cycle of illiteracy, poverty and street life. To change this bleak situation, all stakeholders need to come together to take education to the most underserved areas of our country. The problem is so huge that a small step is like a drop in the ocean but we have to do whatever we can collectively to make a difference. TCF is committed to remove barriers of class and privilege to make the citizens of Pakistan agents of positive change. We believe quality education can lead to a better future and the Engro Polymer - TCF Ghaghar Phattak campuses is just another step in that direction. We are grateful to Engro Polymer for their generous support.” 

EPCL also established a primary school with TCF back in 2015 in Haji Jangi Khan Gotth, Gaghar Phattak where approximately 350 students are on the path of success in getting quality education in two shifts (morning and evening). In April 2018 EPCL took another step to benefit more deserving children by starting a second (evening) shift accommodating around 180 students.—PR

Bank Alfalah & Engro Fertilizers Signed Strategic Partnership

KARACHI : Bank Alfalah and Engro Fertilizers signed an agreement as part of the Agri value Chain Financing Program for the current Kharif Season. The Seasonal Facility will be available for the growers registered with Engro Fertilizers in the Project “Rahbar” and will benefit the farmers of selected districts of Sindh and Punjab. Nauman Ansari, President & CEO Bank Alfalah, and Ruhail Mohammed, CEO, Engro Fertilizers Ltd. signed this strategic partnership.

The project will provide farmers with an end to end solution to mostly belonging to subsistence and economic levels holding. The unique business model will allow for Farm Advisory, timely supply of quality inputs, crop monitoring, farm support, market linkages and access to affordable formal finance. The program includes branchless banking services and clean lending facilities. The Technological and Financial Interventions are aimed at enhanced productivity with post-harvest marketing support and financial inclusion of the unbanked rural populations.

The ceremony was held in Karachi and attended by senior management of both of the organizations. Speaking on the occasion, Nauman Ansari said, 
‘This is the first step of a unique private sector partnership that will go a long way in providing the fruits of subsistence to the Pakistani farmer. Bank Alfalah is dedicated to helping our agrarian sector combat the challenges of seasonal financing, and this is why we have partnered with Engro to help start this change. This strategic partnership between Bank Alfalah and Engro Fertilizers will go a long way in building value preposition for the Agri Sector. “Rahbar” is a successful pilot program which has penetrated well and we intend to capitalize this further through other commodities.’

Ruhail Muhammad, CEO Engro Fertilizers, also spoke about the collaboration, saying, 
‘We are passionate about transforming the agricultural landscape of Pakistan and helping our farmers grow, and towards this end, the obsolete farming techniques and low yields of agricultural produce prevalent in Pakistan were an opportunity worth exploring. Agriculture sector contributes more that 21% to GDP, and improving yields by even small increments can have enormous effect on the lives and livelihoods of our farmers. We aim to leverage the Engro brand and provide Agribusiness Advisory Services to local farmers by implementing an end-to-end closed loop solution, from sowing to selling of produce with timed interventions at different stages of the crop cycle. We believe this project will help improve our farmer’s yield and will provide cascading benefits to the economy of the country. We appreciate Bank Alfalah’s lead in providing financing to the farmers in our program. Such structured financing, as compared to the informal financing currently available to our farmers, will allow farmers to reduce their input cost and improve their returns. This should encourage other financial institutions to provide similar financing to farmers and grow the agri-lending space.’

Engro Foods from Pakistan has been awarded the Commonwealth Company of the Year Award from the Commonwealth Businesswomen’s Network. The award recognises a company that has had a significant impact on women’s economic empowerment in the organisation and the wider community.  

Karachi (UrduPoint / UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 25th Apr, 2018 ) Engro Foods from pakistan has been awarded the Commonwealth Company of the Year Award from the Commonwealth Businesswomen’s Network.

The award recognises a company that has had a significant impact on women’s economic empowerment in the organisation and the wider community. The Award was made during the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in London in consultation with an Advisory Panel.

The Commonwealth Head of Government Meeting (CHOGM) was held in London, where Queen Elizabeth& UK Government hosted Presidents and Prime Ministers of 53 Commonwealth states to promote bilateral trade and implement sustainable development goals amongst all the Commonwealth states.

Besides CHOGM, sessions on Commonwealth business Forums and the Commonwealth Women Forum were also conducted, where 5000+ delegates from 53 countries participated. These events were followed by Commonwealth Business Women Network awards.

Engro Foods represented Pakistan at the Commonwealth Business forums.

Ms Nageen Rizvi, Head of Corporate Communications & Sustainability, Engro Foods presented a case on project WELD – Women Empowerment through Livestock Development to the Commonwealth Business Women Network which won the award for Engro Foods.

This project was started by Engro Foods Limited to strengthen the socio-economic landscape of the dairy industry of Pakistan. It enabled the Pakistani rural women by training them with best dairy practices and created economic opportunities for homebound women by converting them into dairy farmers.

This project created 18000+ dairy farmers, 600 Female Micro Businesses, 300 Female Livestock Extension Entrepreneurs and 300 Female Village Milk Collectors. 
On winning the award at the international forum, Mr Naveed Saeed, Chief Corporate & Regulatory Affairs Director, Engro Foods Limited said, “It is an honor winning the Commonwealth Company of the Year Award.

As an organization, it is our core belief that no organization or industry can have sustainable growth without including the women of the nation into its fabric. Engro Foods Limited started the WELD program to empower women with economic opportunities and incorporate them into the documented economy.
